Reflective foil in a bed does one job: it sends the cat's own body heat back at them instead of letting it disappear into the ground. That is the whole mechanism behind anything sold as self-heating, and it works particularly well in a small enclosed space like this A-frame, where the warmed air has nowhere much to go once it is in there.

The frame is iron with an Oxford cloth shell stretched over it, so the tent holds its shape rather than collapsing when a cat shoves into the corner of it. Inside there is a fleece cushion sitting over the foil layer, and a peep window at one end so a cat can keep an eye on the room without leaving the warm part. Ground pegs are included for pitching it outside.

• Iron frame with an Oxford cloth outer
• Foil-lined insulation reflecting body heat back
• Soft fleece cushion inside
• Peep window at one end
• Ground pegs included for outdoor use
• Available in grey or black, one size
• Weighs around 1 kg

On size: this is listed for cats up to roughly 3kg, which is a small cat. An average adult moggy is heavier than that and a large one will not fit at all. It is also not a heat source, since foil reflects warmth rather than generating any, so a cat living outdoors through a hard frost needs proper shelter and bedding as well.

Who it's for: Smaller cats, and owners wanting an insulated sheltered spot for a porch, an outbuilding or a cold corner indoors.
