Warm rooms are harder on a cat than cold ones once they are lying on a padded bed with no air moving under it, and older cats with stiff joints feel a hard floor through any amount of stuffing. A suspended sling solves both at once. It lifts the cat clear of the floor so air can move underneath, and it flexes to their shape instead of pressing back at the hips and elbows.

The frame is wood rather than plastic tube, so it holds its shape under a cat landing on it from height, and the fabric is stretched between the rails as a breathable sling rather than laid on as a cushion. Paw shapes are cut into the end panels, which is the decorative part, and the whole thing folds flat when you want the floor back. Seven styles are offered and it weighs 1.5kg, light enough to move to a sunny window.

• Wooden frame with a breathable suspended sling
• Two frame sizes: 54 x 36 x 18cm and 55.5 x 46 x 12.5cm
• Seven style options
• Paw-cut end panels
• Folds flat for storage

On which frame you are getting. Despite what the web address suggests, this is a free-standing cot; it does not hang from a window or a balcony rail.

Who it's for: Cats and small dogs in warm rooms, and older pets whose joints would rather not spend the afternoon on a hard floor.
