Cats use vertical space the way people use rooms, and a multi-level tree hands a cat somewhere to be at three different heights without giving up more than the corner it stands in. This one is pastel, with platforms shaped as flowers, stars and a moon, and a toy hanging where a cat lying on the middle tier can reach up and bat at it without troubling itself to get up.

The posts are wrapped in sisal, and that is the part doing the practical work. Sisal gives claws the coarse grain they need to catch and pull against, and a cat with a proper post within reach of where it sleeps is far less inclined to use the sofa arm instead. The plush platforms give several separate places to lie down, which is worth having in a two-cat home, where the argument is usually about who gets the high spot rather than about the furniture itself.

• Multiple tiers set at different heights
• Sisal-wrapped posts for scratching
• Plush flower, star and moon-shaped platforms
• Dangling toy within reach of the platforms
• Pastel colour scheme throughout

On dimensions and stability. No height, footprint or weight limit is published for this one, and those three things are exactly what decide whether a tree suits your cat. We will measure the unit and check the base before you order rather than repeat a figure we cannot verify, which is worth doing if your cat is large or lands heavily.

Who it's for: One or two indoor cats in a home with a spare corner, and owners who would rather the scratching post was not brown carpet wrapped round a beige tube.
