Bohemian Macrame Hanging Cat Hammock

Cats choose height over comfort nearly every time. Given a shelf and a cushion on the floor, most will take the shelf, because being above the room is a large part of what makes a cat feel safe in it. This hammock puts that perch on a wall, where it costs no floor space and, unlike a carpeted cat tree, does not have to be hidden away in a back room.

It is handwoven macrame in cotton rope, with tassels along the edges and a soft padded mat across the sleeping surface, so the cat lies on fabric rather than on knotted cord. Two sizes are made: 45 by 30 cm, which suits a kitten or a smaller cat, and 60 by 35 cm for most adults. On fixing it to the wall. This is the part to take seriously. A cat does not step onto a perch, it lands on one, and the shock load is several times its standing weight. We are not given a stated load rating and will not invent one, so fix into masonry with proper plugs or into a timber stud, never into plasterboard alone, and lean your own weight on it before the cat tries. Mount it low while the cat learns the landing.
