A dog that eats a handful of treats in one gulp gets no more out of them than one that takes five minutes working them out of a puzzle, and a treat ball is the cheapest way to buy that five minutes back.

Bestpets' Energy Treat Ball is 8cm across, finished in red and blue, and built as an interactive toy that doubles as a slow feeder for treats — Best Pets describe it as good for keeping a dog entertained and useful as a boredom buster rather than a toy for constant chewing.

• 8cm ball
• Red and blue colourway
• Interactive treat ball
• Slows down treat feeding
• Marketed as a boredom-buster toy

On durability. Best Pets don't give a material or a weight limit for dogs using this ball, so if you have a very strong chewer, judge how it holds up the first few times rather than assuming it's built for heavy use.

Who it's for: owners wanting a low-cost way to slow down treat-giving and add some mental stimulation to a dog's day, rather than a heavy-duty chew toy.
