A bird working through a moult or raising chicks needs more from its diet than a seed mix alone can give it, which is what an egg food supplement is for rather than a replacement.

Beaphar's Egg Food is a complementary food built around eggs and egg derivatives (0.44%), cereals, seeds and dried vegetable protein extracts. Beaphar's own feeding guide scales it to what's happening in the bird's year: a quarter of the daily requirement generally, stepped up to two or three times daily during breeding, given daily during a moult, and twice weekly the rest of the year.
