A dog that has put on weight usually still wants to eat the same volume of food, which is the actual problem a weight-management recipe is trying to solve — not just cutting fat, but keeping the bowl looking full while doing it.

This one is built on 50% chicken (26% freshly prepared free-run chicken, 21% dried chicken, 3% chicken gravy), with rice, oats and peas providing the bulk rather than a filler starch. Glucosamine (500mg/kg) and chicory root extract are both included, and it comes in at 343 kcal per 100g.

• 50% chicken: 26% freshly prepared free-run, 21% dried, 3% gravy
• Crude protein 24%, crude fat 9.5%, crude fibre 4%, crude ash 8%
• 343 kcal per 100g
• Glucosamine at 500mg/kg for joint support
• Contains rice, oats and barley — not a grain-free recipe
• 12KG bag

One thing worth knowing. This is not a grain-free food, despite sitting in a range that markets itself on natural ingredients — rice, oats and barley are all present, so it isn't the right choice if you're specifically avoiding grains rather than managing weight.

Who it's for: owners of a dog that has been advised to lose weight, or is prone to putting it on, who want a lower-fat recipe that still leads with a genuine amount of named chicken rather than a filler-heavy "diet" formula.
