Clip-on dog lights nearly all run on coin cells, and coin cells die in the cold on the one evening you needed them, in a size the corner shop does not stock. Charging over USB removes that entirely: it goes on the same cable as everything else in the house, it tells you when it is low, and there is no small button battery sitting in a drawer where a curious dog or a toddler can find it, which is a genuine hazard rather than a theoretical one.

The body is silicone rather than hard plastic, so it flexes against the neck and does not clack against a metal tag or dig in when the dog puts their chin down. Silicone also survives being nosed into a puddle and wiped off afterwards. It is a bright, obviously silly banana, and that is doing more work than it looks like: something distinctive is far easier to pick out at a distance than another generic white flashing dot, particularly on a field where four other dogs are also lit up.

On what it is and is not. What you are buying is a light. Never clip a walking lead to a novelty light, whatever the title implies.

Who it's for: small dogs on evening street walks, owners who want one thing to charge instead of batteries to buy, and anyone after a stocking filler that gets used all winter rather than once.
