A bag named after its headline ingredient is telling you what's on the front of the pack, not necessarily what's first in the bowl — and the only way to know which one is true is to read past the name into the composition itself.

This BAKERS recipe is sold as a complete food based on the recipe — a main-meal formulation rather than a claim printed on the pack in those words. The composition opens with cereals, wholegrains making up 59% of the recipe, ahead of meat and animal derivatives, oils and fats, and fish and fish derivatives — of which salmon itself is 4%. The rest carries dried beet pulp (2.9%), dried pea and dried carrot (0.3% each) and spirulina (0.2%).

• Protein 20%, fat content 10%, crude ash 7%, crude fibre 3%
• Omega 3 fatty acids 0.21%, omega 6 fatty acids 2.4%
• Cereals and wholegrains make up 59% of the recipe
• Salmon is 4% of the recipe, within the fish and fish derivatives category
• 14KG sack

On the name. This is sold as an Adult Dog Superfoods Salmon recipe, but salmon itself is only 4% of the total — cereals and wholegrains at 59% lead the composition by a wide margin. If a fish-forward diet is what you're after for your dog, it's worth checking that 4% figure against what you were expecting from the name.

Who it's for: owners who want a mainstream, cereal-based complete food with some fish content included, rather than a diet where fish is genuinely the primary ingredient.
