Dogs that finish a bowl in under a minute are not being greedy so much as doing what a scavenging animal has always done, and a kibble's texture is one of the few things an owner can actually change about that. BAKERS' recipe here is built around wholegrain cereals rather than a wet or freeze-dried format.

The biggest ingredient group by a distance is wholegrain cereals at 55%, ahead of meat and animal derivatives at 20%. Within that meat group, chicken specifically makes up 4% of the whole recipe — the rest of the 20% is unnamed meat and animal derivatives. Vegetables appear too, in small named amounts — dried spinach, dried pea, dried carrot — alongside a small inclusion of spirulina.

• Wholegrain cereals 55% — the largest single ingredient
• Meat and animal derivatives 20%, of which chicken is 4%
• Protein 21%, fat 10%, crude ash 8%, crude fibre 3%
• Omega 3 fatty acids 0.15%, omega 6 fatty acids 2.5%
• Feeding guide scaled from toy to giant breeds
• 1KG bag

What the label does not say. The name leads with chicken and vegetables, but cereal is the ingredient doing most of the work here — more than double the meat and animal derivatives. Chicken itself is 4% of the bag, and the named vegetables individually run from 1% down to 0.3%.

Who it's for: owners feeding on a budget who want a complete dry food and are comfortable that a cereal-led recipe, not a meat-led one, is what's inside a bag named for chicken and vegetables.
