Two separate bowls on a hard floor will be in two different corners of the kitchen by the end of the week, with a puddle somewhere between them. Moulding both bowls into a single silicone mat puts a stop to that. There is nothing to push around and nothing to tip over, and any spill lands inside the raised lip instead of running under the units. It is also one object to lift and rinse rather than three.

Slow-feeder bowls also frustrate some dogs into abandoning the meal, so introduce it gradually rather than switching overnight.
