Size guide & how to measure
Collars are sized by the neck girth — the measurement around the base of the neck where the collar will sit.
How to measure
- Wrap a soft tape around the base of the neck.
- Add room for two fingers between the tape and the neck.
- Use that measurement to pick a size whose range it falls within.
| Size | Typical neck girth | Rough guide |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 20–28 cm | Toy breeds |
| S | 26–36 cm | Small dogs |
| M | 34–48 cm | Medium dogs |
| L | 46–60 cm | Large dogs |
| XL | 58–72 cm | Giant breeds |
Ranges are approximate and vary by style. Always check this product’s Specifications for its exact measurements.
Full description
Not every collar needs to say anything beyond 'this is a collar' - sometimes the plain, everyday option is exactly the one that gets reached for every single morning, precisely because there's nothing about it to think about.
Ancol's Heritage Nylon collar is a durable poly-weave webbing collar with a satin-finish buckle and D-ring, heat-sealed buckle holes, and an ID loop. It's available in two colours and five sizes, and it's suitable for swimming as well as everyday walking.

On sizing. Ancol give us the measurement for the smallest size on this page - 20-26cm - but not the other four; the range runs up from there across the larger sizes. If you're not sure which of the five your dog needs, use the size picker rather than assuming from the smallest figure alone.
Who it's for: owners who want a straightforward, everyday collar rather than a fashion or specialist one, on a dog that could be any of the five sizes stocked here.

Why we chose it
This is the collar we stock the most of, simply because it's the one that suits the most dogs without anyone needing to think about it - two colours and five sizes covers a lot of ground from one listing. It's also suitable for swimming, which not every plain nylon collar bothers to be.
