Small in this range still means a substantial harness
Ancol build the Extreme for large and adventurous dogs and do not lighten it for the smaller sizes, so on a very small or fine-boned dog it may be more harness than they want to wear. Measure the girth — around the chest, behind the front legs — because 51 to 67cm is the only figure that decides fit, and Ancol give us no neck measurement or weight range. If your dog is under the bottom of that range, this is not the harness for them.
Why we chose it
The handle is worth more on a small dog than a big one, because you can actually lift them. Same heavy-duty construction as the larger sizes, which is unusual — most ranges thin out as they get smaller.

Size guide & how to measure
Harnesses are sized by the chest (girth) — the measurement around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
How to measure
- Stand your pet up squarely.
- Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
- Keep two fingers under the tape so the fit is snug, not tight.
- If your pet is between sizes, choose the larger one.
| Size | Typical chest / girth | Rough guide |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 28–40 cm | Toy breeds, kittens, very small dogs |
| S | 38–53 cm | Small dogs (e.g. Dachshund, Yorkie) |
| M | 50–68 cm | Medium dogs (e.g. Cocker Spaniel, Beagle) |
| L | 65–85 cm | Large dogs (e.g. Labrador, Boxer) |
| XL | 82–105 cm | Giant breeds (e.g. German Shepherd, Rottweiler) |
Ranges are approximate and vary by style. Always check this product’s Specifications for its exact measurements.

Full description
This is the smallest Extreme, at 51 to 67cm girth, and it is the size where the grab handle changes from useful to genuinely valuable. A small dog is a dog you can pick up — over a stile, out of the way of a bike, off the edge of a canal path — and a harness with a handle turns that into one movement instead of a scramble.
The build is the same as the largest in the range: heavy-duty nylon straps, a sports buckle, a rust-resistant nickel-coated D-ring, reinforced nylon stitching, fully padded with a breathable mesh lining. There is a padded grab handle across the back, tool holders and an accessory clip, and reflective stitching and piping as standard. The chest pad is removable for more shoulder movement, and the utility pocket takes a Tractive tracker.

Who it's for: small but sturdy dogs walked somewhere a handle matters — terriers, French bulldogs, small working crossbreeds.
