Full description

Moulting season doesn't announce itself, it just leaves more hair on the sofa each week until an owner finally does something about it — usually a lot later than the coat would have preferred.

This is the large Shedmaster, a fine-toothed deshedding tool that removes dead hair from both the top coat and the undercoat in one pass. It's meant for fur that's already free of knots and mats, brushed gently in the direction of growth.

Fine-toothed deshedding blade
Removes hair from both top coat and undercoat
9.5cm blade (large size)
For use on tangle-free, mat-free fur
Stop if the dog shows signs of agitation

On technique. This only works on fur that's already free of knots and mats — the makers don't give guidance on detangling first, so plan to comb out any mats with a separate tool before reaching for this one.

Who it's for: owners of a dog that moults heavily and already brushes out tangles separately, wanting a dedicated tool for the undercoat itself.

Ancol Ergo Shedmaster Tool

Why we chose it

A dedicated deshedding blade does more in one session than a standard brush manages in three, which matters most in the weeks either side of a big coat blow. The large size suits the bigger, heavier-coated dogs that shed the most.
