Full description

A flea isn't evenly distributed across a dog's body — it favours the neck and around the ears, which is exactly where a fine-toothed comb is meant to be used first rather than starting at the tail and working forward.

This comb has fine stainless steel teeth, rounded for comfort, designed to be run through a tangle-free coat in the direction of hair growth, paying particular attention to the neck and around the ears where fleas are more likely to be found.

One thing worth knowing. This does not treat fleas, it only checks for and grooms them out — the makers say to seek further treatment if fleas are detected, so treat a positive find here as a reason to move on to an actual flea product, not the end of the job.

Who it's for: owners doing a routine flea check as part of regular grooming, or checking a dog that's been scratching more than usual.

Ancol Ergo Flea Comb

Why we chose it

A dedicated flea comb finds what a normal brush misses, because the tooth spacing is fine enough to catch something a wider comb just pushes past. It's cheap enough to keep in the grooming kit permanently rather than buying only when there's a problem.
