Cats keep their own hours, and the two they favour most - the last of the light and the first of it - are exactly the two a driver's eyes handle worst. A collar cannot make a cat sensible about roads. What it can do is put something back into a headlight that the cat itself does not.

Ancol's answer here is a reflective cat pattern printed along the strap, so the collar throws light back in low light. Two other things come as standard across Ancol's cat collars: a break-away buckle, designed to let go if the cat is caught up while climbing rather than hold on, and a warning bell to give birds and small mammals some notice. Ancol's own fitting instruction is that you should be able to get two fingers between the collar and the cat, and that the fit is checked each day rather than once at the point of purchase.

What Ancol have not supplied. There is no neck measurement, no adjustment range, no material and no weight for this collar anywhere in the listing, so a cat at either end of the scale - a small kitten, or a very heavy adult - is being fitted without a number to check against. The other thing worth saying plainly is that a break-away buckle is meant to come off, and a collar meant to come off is not an identification system on its own.

Who it's for: owners of cats that go outside, particularly near a road, and anyone who wants a bell on for the sake of the birds in the garden. It earns nothing on an indoor cat that never leaves the flat.
