A toy that lies where it lands stops being interesting after about a minute, and this one moves back. A weighted base means every swipe sends it rocking and then rights it again, so the game carries on without anyone standing over it, and a cat who fancies twenty seconds of play at three in the morning can have it entirely on their own terms.

The top is a soft knitted cap with a feather plume set into it, which gives claws and teeth something different to grab than the smooth rocking body below; cats tend to bat the base and bite the top. Silvervine is worked in as the draw rather than catnip. It is the eastern cousin of catnip, and plenty of cats who walk straight past a catnip mouse will still roll around a silvervine toy.

• Weighted self-righting base that rocks back after every swipe
• Knitted fabric cap with a feather plume on top
• Silvervine used as the attractant rather than catnip
• Built for solo play, with no batteries or refills
• Choice of pink or blue

Two things worth knowing. Feathers are the part that goes first, so most cats will strip the plume eventually, and it is worth taking the toy away once the feathers are loose rather than letting them be swallowed. And no attractant works on every cat; a minority respond to neither catnip nor silvervine, and to them this will only ever be a wobbly toy.

Who it's for: Indoor cats who play in short bursts on their own, and owners who want something that keeps going after the first swipe.
