Cats rank a room by height. The one on the highest surface feels safest, which is why the top of the wardrobe gets used and the expensive floor bed does not. A tall tree gives that height back in a spot you choose, and the posts on the way up take the scratching that would otherwise go into the sofa arm.

This one stands 139cm on a base of 50 x 35cm. Working up from the floor there is a ladder with a toy ball set into it, an enclosed condo about 28cm across for hiding and sleeping, a round hammock about 30cm across, two flat platforms and a lookout perch at the top with toy mice hanging from it. The posts are wrapped in sisal rope in sections, and everything else is covered in grey plush.

• 139cm tall on a 50 x 35cm base
• Enclosed condo, about 28cm across
• Round hammock, about 30cm across
• Ladder, two platforms and a top perch
• Sisal-wrapped scratching posts
• Hanging toy mice and a ball toy
• Self-assembly, fittings included

On size and weight: the maker rates it to 20kg in total and describes it as suiting two to four cats. We would read that as two average cats comfortably. The condo and hammock are sized for a cat of ordinary build, so a Maine Coon or a large British Shorthair will use the platforms and ignore the hammock. Like any tall, narrow tree it is steadiest in a corner or against a wall.

Who it's for: indoor cats who climb the curtains for want of anything better, two-cat homes where one cat needs to get above the other, and anyone who wants a tall tree without the usual tall-tree price.
