Burns puppy food

Burns is a UK complete dry food brand, built around recipes that lean on rice rather than wheat or maize and keep the ingredient list short. We stock a selection of the puppy range as one of the everyday dry foods on the shelf, alongside the other single-protein and grain-inclusive brands either side of it.

Who Burns are

Burns markets its recipes as being built around a single named meat and brown rice, rather than a blend of several proteins and cereals in one bag. The brand has long positioned itself around keeping ingredient lists simple and free of some of the additives found in cheaper mass-market foods, which is part of why it sits in the middle of the market rather than at the budget end.

That single-protein, rice-based approach is a genuinely useful starting point for a puppy who turns out to have a sensitive stomach, because it narrows down what is actually in the bowl. It is not a guarantee that every puppy will thrive on it, and any new food — Burns included — should be introduced gradually rather than swapped overnight.

What we stock, and who it suits

Our range includes several Burns puppy and junior recipes, among them the Puppy/Junior Original Chicken & Rice and Puppy/Junior Original Lamb & Rice formulas, plus a grain-free Duck & Potato option for owners who want to avoid rice as well as wheat. We stock a selection from the wider Burns range rather than every recipe the brand makes, and what is shown above is what is currently available to order.

This tends to suit owners who want a straightforward, rice-based puppy food at a mid-range price rather than a raw or heavily fortified premium diet. As with any brand, whether a specific recipe suits your puppy comes down to their breed size, growth rate and any known sensitivities rather than the name on the bag.

Moving a puppy onto a new food

If you are switching a puppy onto Burns from whatever they were weaned on, do it gradually over a week or so — a little more of the new food and a little less of the old one each day, rather than changing the whole bowl at once. A puppy's digestion reacts more visibly to a sudden change than an adult dog's does.

Watch their stools and appetite through the switch. A slightly looser stool for a day or two during the transition is common and usually settles; if it continues, or your puppy seems unwell or goes off their food, speak to your vet rather than persisting with the change.

Common questions

Is Burns a good puppy food?
Burns is a well-established UK brand built around single-protein, rice-based recipes. Whether it suits your puppy depends on their breed size and any sensitivities rather than the brand name alone, the same as with any food you choose.
Is Burns hypoallergenic?
Burns is not marketed as a specifically hypoallergenic range, but its recipes are built around one named meat and rice rather than a mix of proteins and cereals, which can make it easier to manage for a puppy with a known sensitivity. It is not a guarantee against every reaction.
Does Giddy Pets stock the whole Burns puppy range?
No, we stock a selection from the range rather than every recipe Burns makes. What is shown in the grid above reflects what we currently have available to order, and that can change as stock does.
How do I switch my puppy onto Burns?
Introduce it gradually over about a week, mixing in more of the new food and less of the old one each day rather than swapping the whole bowl at once. Watch their stools and appetite, and speak to your vet if the change does not settle within a few days.
