Arm & Hammer Fresh dental care
Arm & Hammer Fresh is the dental care line from the well-known baking soda brand, built around cleaning a dog's teeth and freshening breath. We stock several pieces from the range, covering both brushing and no-brush options for dogs who will not tolerate a toothbrush.
What's in the range
The core of the range is brushing kit — a coconut mint toothpaste made for dogs and a dedicated toothbrush, sold together as a dental kit or separately for topping up. Dog toothpaste is formulated to be safe if swallowed, unlike human toothpaste, which should never be used on a dog.
Alongside brushing, the range covers no-brush options: a dental spray applied directly to the teeth and gums, and a water additive poured into your dog's drinking water, both aimed at dogs who will not tolerate a toothbrush.
How the pieces fit together
Brushing with a proper toothpaste and brush remains the most effective thing you can do for a dog's teeth at home, so the toothpaste and toothbrush kit is the best starting point if your dog will accept it.
The spray and water additive work well as an addition for a dog who will not tolerate brushing at all, or as a top-up on days brushing does not happen, rather than a full substitute for a dog who will let you brush regularly.
Building the habit
A dog new to brushing generally does better with a slow introduction — let them taste the toothpaste from a finger first, then get used to the brush touching their mouth briefly, before attempting a full clean. Rushing this stage is the most common reason brushing gets abandoned.
Keeping a consistent time of day for brushing, such as straight after a walk when a dog is calmer, tends to make it a routine rather than a battle each time. Short, frequent sessions beat one long, stressful one.

Common questions
- Can I use my own toothpaste on my dog?
- No, human toothpaste is not safe for dogs and should never be used. Always use a toothpaste made specifically for dogs, which is formulated to be safe if swallowed.
- Is a water additive as effective as brushing?
- No, brushing remains the most effective way to look after a dog's teeth at home. A water additive is a reasonable addition or fallback for a dog who will not tolerate brushing, not a like-for-like replacement.
- How often should I brush my dog's teeth?
- Daily is ideal if your dog will tolerate it, though even a few times a week is better than not brushing at all. Build it up gradually if your dog is new to having their teeth brushed.
- Does Giddy Pets stock the full Arm & Hammer Fresh range?
- We stock a selection from the range rather than every product Arm & Hammer Fresh makes. What is shown in the grid above reflects what we currently have available to order, and that can change as stock does.
- Can I use the dental spray and water additive together?
- Yes, they work on different parts of the routine — the spray is applied directly to the teeth and gums, while the additive works through drinking water — so many owners use both alongside brushing rather than choosing just one.
