Animology dog shampoo and grooming sprays
Animology is a UK grooming brand built around scented shampoos, conditioners and quick-fix sprays, aimed mainly at dogs with a small cat range alongside it. We carry a selection covering everyday shampoos, specific-purpose ones like flea and tick or fox-poo removal, and skin-focused options for sensitive dogs.
What the range covers
Most of Animology's catalogue is fragrance-led shampoo — names like Dirty Dawg, Mucky Pup and Puppy Love point to the brand's general style, built around making a dog smell noticeably better after a bath rather than being a clinical or medicated product first. Alongside that sit purpose-specific lines: Derma and Essentials Sensitive shampoos for dogs prone to skin irritation, a fox-poo pre-wash and shampoo for the specific problem of a dog that's rolled in something, and no-rinse and dry sprays for a quick freshen-up between full baths.
The Essentials sub-range leans more toward gentler, simpler formulas — oatmeal, aloe vera, sensitive skin — while the main range is more about fragrance and everyday cleaning. A couple of products, including the Cat Flea & Tick and Feline Great Cat shampoos, cover cats specifically.
Choosing the right one
For a dog with no particular skin issues, the fragrance-led shampoos are built for exactly that — regular washing with a noticeable, lasting scent. For a dog with sensitive or easily irritated skin, the Derma or Essentials Sensitive lines are the more sensible starting point, since they're formulated to be gentler rather than prioritising fragrance.
The no-rinse sprays are useful for a quick clean-up between baths or for a dog who tolerates full bathing poorly, but they aren't a substitute for a proper wash when a dog is genuinely dirty rather than just a bit musty.
Fragrance strength is a genuine consideration too — some of the scented range is noticeably strong, which most dogs and owners like but which is worth toning down for a dog with a known skin sensitivity, where the milder Essentials line is the safer choice regardless of how appealing a stronger scent sounds.

Common questions
- Is Animology shampoo suitable for a dog with sensitive skin?
- Animology's Derma and Essentials Sensitive lines are formulated to be gentler than the brand's main fragrance-led range, which makes them a more sensible starting point for a dog prone to irritation. If your dog has a diagnosed skin condition, check with your vet before trying a new shampoo.
- Does Animology make anything for cats?
- Yes, though it's a much smaller part of the range than the dog side — a couple of products including a cat flea and tick shampoo. Most of what we stock from Animology is aimed at dogs.
- How often can I use Animology no-rinse spray?
- No-rinse sprays are generally designed for use between full baths rather than as a total replacement for washing, so use them for a quick freshen-up and still bathe your dog properly when they're genuinely dirty.
- What is Animology's fox-poo shampoo for?
- It's a specific-purpose shampoo and pre-wash aimed at the particular smell and residue left behind when a dog rolls in fox mess, which an ordinary shampoo doesn't always fully shift on the first wash.
