Everyday pet sundries
"Sundries" is the catch-all term for the small, everyday items that support the bigger stuff — a food, a bed, a lead — without being any of those things themselves. On this site that mostly means cleaning and hygiene basics and the poo bags you buy again and again, rather than one single aisle of its own.
You might also want to browse dog nappies and hooded litter trays.
What actually counts as a sundry
Odour neutralisers, disinfectant sprays, mouse and pest traps for the house, puppy pads and stain removers all fall under this heading. None of them are exciting purchases, but they're the ones you notice the moment you run out, usually at an inconvenient time.
Poo bags are the other big one. They're not glamorous, but they're a genuine repeat purchase for almost every dog owner, and having a dispenser clipped to the lead or a spare roll in a coat pocket is the kind of small thing that makes daily walks easier.
How to choose
For cleaning and hygiene, think about what you're actually dealing with: a general odour neutraliser for everyday smells is a different product to a proper disinfectant spray for an area that's been fouled, and using the wrong one just means doing the job twice.
For poo bags, the differences that matter are thickness, scent and whether they're degradable — a thin bag that tears mid-walk is worse than useless, so it's worth paying slightly more for ones that hold up. Beyond that, most of what's in this corner of the shop is bought on habit rather than research, which is exactly as it should be.

Common questions
- What's the difference between an odour neutraliser and a disinfectant?
- An odour neutraliser is generally aimed at everyday smells around the home — bedding, litter areas, a damp dog — while a proper disinfectant spray is meant for cleaning up after an accident or illness. Read the label rather than assuming one does the other's job.
- Are degradable poo bags worth the extra cost?
- For most owners, yes — they cost a little more than the thinnest standard bags but tend to be more tear-resistant in practice, which matters more on a muddy walk than the price difference does. It's a small, regular cost either way, so pick the one that actually holds up for you.
- Do I need pest traps if I don't have a mouse problem?
- Not as a precaution, no — they're there for when you actually have a problem, not as something to keep running permanently. If you do see signs of mice, a simple trap dealt with promptly is usually enough before it becomes a bigger job.
