Dog grooming scissors

Using scissors safely at home
The main risk with scissors is not the coat, it is the skin underneath it — a dog's skin is looser and closer to the surface than it looks under a thick coat, especially around the belly, armpits and between the toes. Work with the coat lifted and combed flat rather than cutting into a mat close to skin, and always point the blade tip away from the body rather than towards it.
A dog who has never been scissored before will find the sound and the handling stranger than the cutting itself, so a short session with plenty of breaks beats trying to finish a whole coat in one go. If your dog will not settle for scissor work at all, an electric grooming vacuum or clipper-only routine is worth trying instead — not every dog needs to be scissor-finished to look and feel tidy.
