Material: Steel

Full description

A thick, uneven patch in a coat is often better thinned out than cut straight across, which leaves a hard line that grows out looking worse than the problem it was meant to fix.

These are 6.5-inch steel scissors with double-sided thinning teeth, designed to blend and thin a coat rather than cut it flat, with a comfortable grip for extended use.

Suitable for all animal coat types

One thing worth knowing. Wahl describe these as suitable for all animal coat types but don't publish a specific blade sharpness rating or a recommended coat thickness — for a very dense or matted coat, this is a thinning and blending tool rather than a de-matting one.

Who it's for: an owner doing their own coat maintenance who wants to blend or thin out an uneven patch, rather than cut straight across it with standard scissors.

Wahl Tool Steel Thinning Scissors

Why we chose it

Double-sided thinning teeth genuinely blend a coat rather than leaving the harsh line a straight cut does, which is the whole reason to reach for this over an ordinary pair of scissors. Steel construction also keeps the edge longer than a cheaper alloy blade.
