The W is the useful part of the name. A wide blade covers more ground per pass than a standard one, which on a big dog is the difference between a job and an afternoon — fewer passes, less time standing still, and a more even finish because there are fewer overlaps to blend.
This is Wahl's Prime Series 9W, made for the KM Supera Pet Clipper. Every Prime blade is precision ground from solid high-carbon steel, and the range is designed around a quick change system, so a blade clips and unclips without tools for maintenance or replacement. They are grooved so they stay cool through longer sessions, which matters even more on a wide blade because there is more metal to heat up. Being solid metal, they can be re-sharpened several times before replacement.
