Product description

Small parrots in the wild pick up grit stones along with their food, and the reason a seed mix like this includes oyster grit rather than just seed is to cover that need without the bird having to forage for it separately.

This blend is built from cereals, seeds and fruits — including dried carob at 5%, banana chips at 2%, dried figs at 2% and dried coconut at 1% — alongside oyster grit at 3% and vegetable by-products. A full trace element and vitamin panel is added per kilogram, including vitamin A, vitamin D3, selenium, iodine, zinc, manganese and copper. Vitakraft's feeding guide is one tablespoon per bird per day, and it's formulated specifically for small parrots.

On the numbers. No protein, fat or fibre percentage is published for this feed, so it can't be set against a pelleted diet's guaranteed analysis. The additive panel is precisely stated, but the base nutritional profile isn't, so weigh this as an ingredient-led product rather than a numbers-led one.

Who it's for: small parrot owners who feed seed rather than pellets and want the grit and trace element additions already built in, rather than supplied separately.

Why we chose it

Having oyster grit and a full trace element panel already in the mix saves buying a separate grit pot, which is a genuine convenience rather than a marketing add-on. The named fruit content — carob, banana, fig, coconut — is more specific than most seed mixes bother listing.
