A dog that inhales a bowl of kibble in twenty seconds is not enjoying it, and neither is their stomach. Putting the same food inside a wobbling carrot changes that completely: the food comes out a few pieces at a time and only when the toy is nudged, so a meal that took seconds becomes a job that takes several minutes of nosing, pawing and working out the angle.

The weight sits in the base, so every push tips the carrot over and it rights itself again, which keeps the game going without you standing over it. That self-righting action is also what stops the toy ending up wedged under the sofa after two nudges, which is how most rolling feeders end their careers. It works with dry kibble or small treats, and because the reward comes from the animal's own effort, it holds attention far longer than a bowl or a handful scattered on the floor.

• Weighted base rocks it back upright after each nudge
• Dispenses kibble or small treats gradually
• Slows down fast eaters at mealtimes
• Rewards nosing and pawing rather than chewing
• Available in yellow or red

On size and capacity. It is also a feeder rather than a chew toy, so take it away once the food is gone and give it a wash.

Who it's for: Food-motivated dogs and cats who bolt their meals, and owners after ten quiet minutes without handing over another chew.
