Full description
The coldest part of a winter walk for a small dog is not the walk itself, it is the first two minutes of it, before the body has warmed up. A padded coat with a hood buys that time back by covering the neck and shoulders as well as the back. The neck is where a thin-coated dog loses heat fastest, which is why a cold dog hunches there before anywhere else.
The outer is a soft teddy fleece over a padded lining, and the two together trap a layer of warm air against the body rather than relying on thickness alone. It goes on over the back and fastens so it stays put while the dog moves, and there is a D-ring built into the back for a lead. The cut is deliberately relaxed through the shoulders and hips, so a dog can trot, sit and turn without the coat riding forward and bunching at the chest.
