Small dogs are handed bowls far too big for them more often than not. A deep, wide dish means a Chihuahua puts her whole face in to reach the last mouthful and comes out with her ears in her dinner. Thirteen centimetres across is a genuinely small-dog size: room enough for a toy breed's meal, shallow enough that she can see over the rim while she eats.

The bowl is moulded in food-safe melamine rather than ceramic or thin stainless steel. Melamine takes the knocks a floor-level bowl gets, a kick on the way past or a nudge into the skirting board, without chipping or cracking, and it does not ring and skitter the way a light steel bowl does, which puts some nervous dogs off their food. Two things worth knowing. The colour is chosen at checkout: our specification sheet lists blue, but both blue and pink are stocked, so pick from the drop-down rather than going by the main photograph. And 13 cm really is small, so if your dog eats more than a toy breed's portion, or is flat-faced and does better with a wider, shallower dish, look at a larger bowl instead.
