Sniffing tires a dog out in a way that running does not. Ten minutes of nose work will settle a dog who would still be bouncing after an hour in the park, because scenting is genuinely hard mental effort rather than simple movement. Supervise it, and wash it. Fabric puzzle toys are for supervised sessions, because a dog who decides shredding is faster than sniffing will find that squeaker, and at that point it is a toy to retire rather than repair.
