Padding is what separates a coat from a jumper. A knitted jumper traps a thin layer of warm air and loses it the moment wind gets through; a quilted coat holds a thicker layer that keeps working on a still, cold morning when a thin-coated dog would otherwise be shaking at the gate. This is the quilted kind, with a padded body and a soft lining against the skin.

The lining is coral velvet, a dense short-pile fleece that feels warm immediately rather than after a few minutes, and that does not drag at a dog's coat the way a coarse lining does. The outer is a printed flannel-look quilt. It is not a waterproof: there is no coated shell and no taped seam anywhere on it, so in real rain it wets through and then works against the dog rather than for them.

On sizing: the manufacturer says plainly that these run one to two sizes smaller than UK sizing, and allows 2-3cm of variation between coats because they are measured by hand. Take the larger size if your dog falls between two, and send us their back length from collar to tail base before ordering if you would like us to check it.
