Full description

A litter that clumps has to be scooped constantly to stay usable, while one built to simply absorb takes a different approach entirely — soaking moisture up rather than trapping it in a lump.

This litter is made from silica crystal granules with micro-pores that instantly soak up moisture on contact and continue absorbing odour afterward, rather than clumping into solid pieces. It's a non-clumping format, designed to keep a litter tray cleaner for longer between full changes than a standard mineral litter.

One thing worth knowing. Because it doesn't clump, solid waste has to be removed by hand rather than scooped out as a clump, and Pettex don't give an exact interval for a full litter change — go by how the granules look and smell rather than a fixed schedule.

Who it's for: owners who'd rather manage a litter tray by full changes than daily scooping of clumps, and who want strong ongoing odour control between those changes.

Pettex Silica Litter

Why we chose it

Silica crystal litter genuinely does a different job to clumping litter rather than a worse one — it's built around continuous absorption rather than daily scooping, which suits some households better than a clumping routine ever will. It also tends to track less than clay-based litters.
