Catsan Hygiene Cat Litter

The smell coming off a litter tray is not really the waste. It is what grows in the waste, which is why a tray can be scooped daily and still turn by the end of the week, and why a litter that goes after bacteria is doing a different job from one that simply puts a scent over the top.

CATSAN Hygiene is made from mineral granules - natural quartz sand and lime, with what CATSAN call a mineral formula worked in. The working part is the surface of each granule: millions of micropores take moisture in fast and lock it there, so the tray stays visibly clean rather than damp underneath. CATSAN state the composition prevents odour developing three times more effectively than a conventional cat litter, by stopping the bacteria that cause it from growing in the first place. On the size and the weight of it. Twenty litres is a lot of litter and the parcel weighs 10.19kg, so it wants somewhere dry to live and somebody able to lift it onto a shelf. CATSAN supply us with no guidance on how deep to fill a tray or how often to change it, and nothing we have been sent says whether this litter clumps - so how long a bag lasts depends entirely on how you work. If your cat is opinionated about texture, change litter type gradually rather than overnight: a cat that dislikes what is underfoot does not complain, it just goes somewhere else.

Who it's for: households that want the tray to stop smelling without a perfume in the room, and anyone with a kitten forming its first habits. Not the choice if you specifically want a clumping litter, because nobody has told us that this is one.
