Disposable pads are a running cost that never stops, and for a dog who will need them for years — a senior with a weak bladder, a crate-trained puppy, a dog on cage rest after surgery — the arithmetic stops making sense fairly quickly. A washable pad is the same job done with a laundry cycle instead of a bin bag, and the saving compounds every single week.

Construction is layered: a soft printed top sheet that draws moisture down and away so the surface stays dry to the touch, an absorbent middle that holds it, and a leak-resistant backing that keeps whatever sits underneath dry. It lies flat rather than curling at the corners, which is what makes it genuinely usable inside a crate or on top of a bed, and it goes through a normal wash and comes back ready.

• Absorbent layers beneath a soft printed top sheet
• Leak-resistant backing for floors, beds and crates
• Machine washable and reusable
• Lies flat without curling at the edges
• Three sizes: S, M and L
• Cuts the ongoing cost of disposables

Two things worth knowing. Wash without fabric softener — it coats the fibres and gradually kills the absorbency, which is easily the most common reason people conclude a washable pad has failed. And it needs washing after each use, so one pad is rarely enough; two lets you rotate.

Who it's for: Puppies in training, senior dogs, dogs recovering from surgery, and anyone tired of buying disposable pads by the box.
