The manufacturer says a dog can pant and drink in it. A loop muzzle holds the jaw closed, so panting is restricted. That makes it right for a vet examination, a nail trim or a groom, and wrong for a warm-weather walk or any stretch longer than a few minutes. If you need a muzzle for a whole walk, buy a basket muzzle instead and we will happily say so.

Size guide & how to measure
The manufacturer sizes this muzzle by snout circumference. Its own chart is headed "Measure snout tightly and close to the eyes - improved overlap for better fit".
How to measure
- Put a soft tape right round your dog's snout, close to the eyes.
- Pull the tape snug against the fur rather than loose.
- Read the circumference in inches and pick the size whose range covers it.

Full description
Two very different things get sold as a dog muzzle, and it is worth knowing which one you are looking at. This is the loop type: a padded nylon sleeve that fits around the closed jaw and holds it shut, fastened behind the head with an adjustable strap and a quick-release buckle. It goes on in seconds, packs flat in a pocket, and is designed for short, controlled situations.
The lining is wide and padded where it crosses the bridge of the nose, which is the spot that rubs on cheap versions and the reason dogs learn to paw them off. The strap adjusts at the neck so the sleeve cannot slide forward off the muzzle, and the quick-release buckle means you can have it off in a moment if your dog panics. Twenty size and colour combinations cover small terriers up to broad-headed larger breeds.
