Floor space is the thing small animals actually use, and this gives them 1.15 square metres of it in one open rectangle — no compartments, no ramps, nothing to negotiate. Then it folds flat to 13.5cm with a handle, which is the part that makes it genuinely useful: it goes in the car for a weekend away, behind a shed over winter, or up against a wall when you have people round.

The frame is fir with steel wire, finished in a pet-safe paint — worth checking on anything a rabbit will chew, and they will chew it. Bar spacing is 1.2cm, close enough to keep guinea pigs and rabbits in and most things out. The whole top opens as well as the side door, so you can lift an animal straight up rather than persuading it towards a corner.

One honest limitation. It is 50cm tall. A rabbit should be able to sit up fully on its back legs without its ears touching, and many adult rabbits cannot do that at 50cm. That makes this an excellent secure daytime pen, run or travel enclosure — and the wrong choice as a permanent full-time home for a full-grown rabbit. For guinea pigs, who do not stand like that, the height is a non-issue and the floor area is generous.
