C&C cages exist because shop-bought guinea pig cages are almost universally too small, and the answer the keeping community settled on was grids and connectors you assemble yourself. The elevated huts are a genuinely good inclusion. Raised 17cm off the base, they keep sleeping animals clear of damp bedding, and guinea pigs will use a covered platform far more than an open one — prey animals want a roof over them. Bar spacing is 1.5cm, tight enough that adults cannot push through, and two of the panels are dense mesh for areas where you want a closer weave.

Two practical notes. For anything that jumps well — and some guinea pigs surprise you — PawHut suggest stacking two panels to double the height, which the system supports. And 0.98m² is a good start rather than a ceiling: UK guinea pig guidance favours more floor space than almost any commercial cage provides, and the advantage of grids is that you can simply buy another set and extend rather than replacing the whole thing.
