The divided layout is the clever part, and it solves a problem most cages ignore. Introducing guinea pigs to each other goes badly when it is done all at once — the usual advice is to let them live alongside one another, in sight and smell but not in reach, before they share a space. This cage is two areas joined by an inner door, so you can keep that door shut for a week and then open it, without buying a second cage or improvising with cardboard.

The floor is waterproof Oxford fabric, which is a better idea than it sounds: it catches what gets through the bedding instead of letting it reach your carpet or decking, and it lifts out to be wiped or hosed. The top comes off entirely, turning the whole thing into an open playpen for floor time. A perch and ramp add height to use, and there are entrances on three sides including the top, so you are never reaching across the whole 121cm to get to a corner.

• 121cm long x 61cm wide x 61cm high
• Two areas connected by a 25 x 35cm inner door
• Removable top converts the cage into an open playpen
• Waterproof Oxford fabric floor, removable for cleaning
• 45 x 45cm perch with a connecting ramp
• Large 34 x 42cm side door plus a 30 x 25cm top door
• Steel with 2.5cm bar spacing; assembly required

Check the bar spacing against your animal. At 2.5cm this is right for adult guinea pigs, hedgehogs and rabbits. It is too wide for dwarf hamsters, very young guinea pig pups or anything smaller, who can and will get through a 2.5cm gap.

Who it's for: Guinea pig keepers introducing a new companion, hedgehog owners, and anyone who wants a cage that opens out into floor-time space without being carried anywhere.
