At 1.22m² this gives more floor than almost any shop-bought guinea pig cage at the price, and floor area is the measurement that matters for animals which do all their living at ground level. The standard layout is 175 x 70cm, long enough for a proper run rather than the shuffle most cages allow.

It is open-topped by design. That sounds like a compromise and is mostly an advantage indoors: you can reach in from any side rather than through one small door, lift an animal out without cornering it, and interact without opening anything. Sixteen PP resin sheets form the base and sides, two metal panels give ventilation where you want it, and 32 connectors hold it square. Because it is a grid system, a second set clips straight onto the first — you extend rather than replace.

Open top, so think about who else is in the house. At 45cm high this will not keep out a cat or a curious dog, and it will not hold an animal that climbs. For guinea pigs and hedgehogs in a room where they are the only residents it is excellent; in a house with a hunting cat, choose something covered.
