Material: high quality Spanish Sepiolite, a natural mineral which is highly absorbent and effectively controls odours

Full description

Clumping litter is not the only option, and plenty of cats and owners get on fine without it - the trade-off with a non-clumping mineral litter is that you change the whole tray more often rather than scooping out clumps daily. Kittyfriend's Classic litter is built on that older, simpler model.

It is made from Spanish Sepiolite, described as a natural mineral that is highly absorbent and works to control odour, rather than a synthetic clay or a clumping formula. Because it does not clump, used litter does not form solid pieces to lift out - the tray is generally emptied and refreshed as a whole rather than spot-cleaned.

On the trade-off. Because this litter does not clump, you cannot scoop out just the soiled patches the way you would with a clumping litter - most owners on a non-clumping litter change the tray more frequently as a result, which is worth knowing before switching if you are used to daily spot-cleaning.

Who it's for: owners who prefer a simpler, non-clumping natural mineral litter and are happy to change the tray as a whole rather than scoop it daily.

Why we chose it

Sepiolite is a genuinely different mineral to the clumping clays that dominate the litter aisle, and some cats simply take to it better - that alone is reason enough to stock a non-clumping option rather than assume everyone wants the same thing. It is also a straightforward, single-material product with nothing else added to explain.
