A hutch or cage can carry lice and mites long after the animal living in it looks perfectly fine, because the parasites live in the seams, bedding corners and wood joints rather than only on the pet's coat — which is why treating the housing itself matters as much as treating the animal.

This aerosol contains permethrin plus a long-lasting Insect Growth Regulator, and Johnson's are clear it is not for use directly on animals. It's built to kill lice and mites in pets' housing — cages, baskets, hutches and similar — rather than on the pet itself. It comes as a 250ml aerosol.

On where to spray it. This goes on the empty housing, not the animal — Johnson's are explicit that it is not for direct use on pets, so the practical approach is to move the animal out, treat the cage, basket or hutch, and let it air before the pet goes back in.

Who it's for: owners dealing with lice or mites in a hutch, cage or basket who need something for the housing itself, separate from any treatment applied to the animal.
