A cat that has stopped jumping onto the counter is not necessarily choosing to behave. It may simply hurt too much to try, and cats hide that far more convincingly than dogs do.

This is James Wellbeloved's senior recipe built around fish as the single named protein, at 18.6% dried fish protein, with brown and white rice for carbohydrate. Glucosamine and chondroitin are included at 0.045% and 0.005% of the composition, alongside the brand's usual exclusion of beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat.

• Composition: dried fish protein (18.6%), brown rice (18.3%), white rice (18.2%)
• Protein 21.4%, fat 10.8%, crude ash 7.3%, crude fibre 3.7%
• Glucosamine (0.045%) and chondroitin (0.005%) included
• Omega-3 1.1%, omega-6 2.7%
• Excludes beef, pork, soya, eggs, dairy and wheat
• 1.5kg bag

On the joint ingredients. Glucosamine and chondroitin are genuinely in this recipe, but at 0.045% and 0.005% of the composition James Wellbeloved do not put a number on what benefit to expect from them. If your cat is already showing signs of joint pain rather than just slowing down generally, that needs a vet's assessment rather than a change of food.

Who it's for: owners of a senior cat who want a fish-based recipe with glucosamine and chondroitin included as standard, rather than something to add separately.
