A treat toy earns its keep by turning a chew session into something slower and more absorbing than a plain bone or biscuit, which is worth more for a bored or anxious dog than the treat inside it ever is on its own.

This is Guru's Ultra Bone in XL, a treat-dispensing toy shaped like a bone rather than a ball or cube, sized for a larger dog than the standard version in the range.

• Bone-shaped treat dispenser
• XL size, for larger dogs
• Designed to be filled with treats or food and worked out gradually

What we don't know. the makers supply almost nothing else about this toy — no material, no weight, no dimensions and no cleaning instructions have reached us, so we can't tell you what it's made from or whether it's dishwasher safe. If any of that is a deciding factor, it's worth asking before buying rather than assuming.

Who it's for: owners of a larger dog looking for a treat-dispensing chew toy to slow down eating or fill idle time, rather than a plain chew with nothing hidden inside it.
