Chest: measure right round the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

Full description

Some dogs need a jumper and some are already wearing one. Thin-coated and small breeds lose heat quickly because there is a great deal of surface area for not much dog, and puppies and older dogs regulate their temperature less well again. Those are the ones who stand shivering on a January pavement. A knitted layer with a roll neck covers the chest and shoulders, which is where a small dog feels the cold first.

The knit has enough stretch to pull on over the head and front legs without a struggle, which is worth more than it sounds with a dog who dislikes being dressed: the fewer fastenings, the shorter the wrestle. The roll-neck collar sits up around the throat rather than gaping open, and the Fair Isle pattern is knitted in rather than printed on. Depending on size the garment weighs between 52 and 132 grams, so it layers easily.
