A dog lying on a cold kitchen floor loses heat into it all night. A dog lying on a hot patio slab in July has nowhere for its heat to go. Raising the bed 20cm answers both, because air can move underneath as well as over the top. The same frame folds down and goes in the boot, which is why these turn up at campsites and shows as often as in kitchens.

The sleeping surface is a waterproof mesh stretched taut across a black steel frame, and taut is the point. A sagging bed loads hips and elbows in exactly the way a hard floor does, whilst a tensioned one spreads the weight. The mesh drains rather than soaking, so a wet dog and a rain shower are both survivable, and it hand-washes and hangs to dry. The frame is rated well above the dog it is meant to carry, so there is no flex when one throws itself down.

Size by body length in any case. The medium gives 75cm of sleeping surface, so a dog longer than that will hang over the end however light it happens to be. Hand wash only, no machine.
