A wild bird wears its beak down against bark, grit and the bones of things it has eaten; a bird in a cage has none of that, which is the whole reason cuttlefish bone exists as a cage accessory rather than a curiosity.

This is Classic Pet Products' cuttlefish bone, supplied as a bulk pack rather than single pieces. It gives a bird calcium and other trace minerals to gnaw at, and the gnawing itself does two jobs at once: it keeps the beak worn to a manageable length and gives a bird with an empty day something to do.

• Bulk pack, listed at 2.27kg (Classic Pet Products describe the same pack as 2.2kg)
• Calcium supplement with additional trace minerals
• Supports beak and claw condition through gnawing
• Provides exercise and stimulation, and helps prevent boredom
• Category: cage bird health

On the two weights. The pack is listed at 2.27kg on our system and as 2.2kg in Classic Pet Products' own description of it — nobody has told us which figure is the more accurate, and no piece count is supplied either, so budget by weight rather than by how many bones you expect to open the box to.

Who it's for: keepers of cage birds who want a standing calcium source in the cage rather than buying single bones each time it runs low — the bulk pack is the economical way to keep one topped up.
