Cats do not simply sleep, they hide while sleeping, and a bed with a roof over it gets used where an open cushion sits ignored in the corner. This one converts. The outer fabric is corduroy over a thickened PP cotton filling, and that filling is what gives the walls enough body to stand up rather than collapsing onto the cat inside, which is where cheaper cave beds fall down. Underneath there is a dotted plastic non-slip base, so it stays put on laminate when a cat launches out of it. An enclosed bed traps your cat's own body heat, which is the entire reason a cave bed feels warm.

About those measurements. The manufacturer prints the size figures without a unit: small reads 48 x 30 x 20 opened and 30 x 30 x 20 closed, medium 65 x 40 x 28 opened and 43 x 40 x 28 closed. Centimetres is the obvious reading, but we are not going to state as fact something the maker never printed.
