Hover to zoomSize guide & how to measure
Pet coats and jumpers are sized mainly by back length, with chest girth as a second check. Back length matters most for coverage.
How to measure
- Back length: measure along the spine from the base of the neck (collar area) to the base of the tail.
- Chest: measure around the widest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
- If the two measurements suggest different sizes, choose by back length and allow for the chest.
| Size | Typical back length | Typical chest |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 20–25 cm | 30–40 cm |
| S | 25–32 cm | 38–50 cm |
| M | 32–40 cm | 48–62 cm |
| L | 40–50 cm | 60–76 cm |
| XL | 50–60 cm | 74–92 cm |
Ranges are approximate and vary by style. Always check this product’s Specifications for its exact measurements.
Full description
Very small animals are the hardest to dress, because most pet knitwear starts at a size that would swallow a Chihuahua puppy whole. This range begins at a 30cm chest and a 24cm back length — genuinely puppy and kitten proportions, for pets from half a kilo upward — and each of the five sizes carries its own chest, back-length and collar figure rather than a vague label.
The knit is acrylic in a red jacquard, which means the pattern is worked into the knit rather than stitched on afterwards, so there is no appliqué to pick loose and swallow. That matters far more with puppies and kittens than with settled adults. Acrylic also washes cool and dries fast, which a garment worn by a young animal will need rather more often than you are expecting.
- XS: chest 30cm, back 24cm, collar 20cm — 0.5-1.5kg
- S: chest 35cm, back 26cm, collar 25cm — 1.5-2.5kg
- M: chest 40cm, back 29cm, collar 30cm — 2.5-3.5kg
- L: chest 45cm, back 33cm, collar 35cm — 3.5-5kg
- XL: chest 50cm, back 36cm, collar 40cm — 5-7kg
- Acrylic jacquard knit in red
Two things worth knowing. Use the chest and back figures rather than the weight bands — the weights are only a rough guide, and a stocky 4kg Pug and a leggy 4kg Papillon are entirely different shapes. And a puppy will outgrow this: if yours is still growing, expect one season out of it rather than years.
Who it's for: Puppies, kittens, Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Papillons and toy Poodles — anything under about seven kilos.
