Full description

Small animals that stop foraging naturally in a cage tend to eat faster and get less mental stimulation from a meal than one that has to work for it, which is the reason behind a compressed bale designed to be pulled apart rather than a bowl of loose hay.

This mini bale is 92% timothy hay topped with 6% marigold, with raffia and starch holding its shape. Burgess position it, like the rest of the Forage & Feast range, as a way to encourage natural foraging behaviour alongside a pet's usual diet.

What's not on the card. No storage guidance or shelf life has been supplied beyond the composition and analysis above — we'd keep it dry rather than assume it's fine left in a damp hutch, as with any hay product.

Who it's for: owners of rabbits, guinea pigs or chinchillas wanting a foraging enrichment product alongside their pet's usual loose hay, rather than a replacement for it.

Why we chose it

Marigold is a mild variation on the plain-hay bales in the same range, and the fibre content at 31.1% is close to what loose hay alone would offer, so it's an enrichment product rather than a nutritional upgrade. It's a small, low-cost way to add variety to a hutch.
