A toothpaste a dog will actually let you use matters more than one with the best ingredient list on paper, which is why flavour is doing real work here rather than being an afterthought - liver flavour is chosen specifically because dogs tend to tolerate it rather than fight the brushing itself.

Bugalugs build this one around two enzymes, Protease and Glucose Oxidase, which they say help reduce the build-up of plaque and tartar while also promoting fresher breath. The full ingredient list is given as Aqua, Glycerin, Hydrated Silica, Maltodextrin, Phenoxyethanol, Glycolipids, Protease, Xanthan Gum, Aroma, Sorbitol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Glucose Oxidase and Sodium Benzoate. It's made in the UK, in liver flavour, and supplied as a 75G tube.

On how long it takes to work. Bugalugs don't give a brushing frequency or a stated timeframe for seeing a reduction in plaque on this card, so treat it as a toothpaste for regular brushing rather than an occasional treatment, and an existing build-up of tartar is generally something for a vet or hygienist to remove rather than a toothpaste alone.

Who it's for: owners already brushing, or starting to brush, their dog's teeth regularly, who want a liver-flavoured paste with a full published ingredient list.
